How to Get Rid of Bathroom Ceiling Mould in 5 Minutes Without Scrubbing
If you’re a UK mum with a bathroom ceiling that looks like a dalmatian, I see you.
That black mould in the corner. Above the shower. Creeping back 2 weeks after you bleach it.
I used to spend 30 mins on a ladder, arms aching, bleach dripping in my eye, swearing I’d just re-plaster the whole thing.
Then I found the 5-minute mould zap.
95% gone. No scrubbing. No ladder. No bleach fumes. Just 1 spray, 5 mins, wipe. Done while the kettle boils.
Here’s exactly how I do it 👇

It’s not your cleaning. It’s Britain.

Steam + poor ventilation + our love of hot showers = mould heaven. Textured/Artex ceilings hold moisture. So the black spots come back.
Bleach doesn’t kill the roots. Scrubbing damages the texture. That’s why it returns.
We need to kill it, not just wipe it.

DO NOT use: Normal bleach. It whitens but doesn’t kill mould roots in porous ceilings.
** Step-by-Step: The 5-Minute Method**
Step 1: Spray & Walk Away — 1 min
Open window. Clip cloth to mop head. Spray mould remover directly onto cloth until damp, not dripping.
Dab, don’t scrub, the mouldy ceiling. Get it wet. Takes 60 secs.
Step 2: Boil Kettle — 5 mins
Leave it. Go make tea. The spray needs 5 mins to kill the mould roots. No scrubbing needed — the chemicals do the work.
NOTE: Some stains may need 2 rounds if the mould’s been there months. 95% gone in 5 mins is still a win vs 30 mins scrubbing.
Step 3: Wipe & Admire — 1 min
Come back. Use clean side of cloth on mop. Wipe once. Mould’s gone.
Leave window open 10 mins to dry.

** Will It Come Back? How to Stop It**
If your bathroom has no fan, yes, it might in 2–3 months. Here’s how I keep it away:
- 2-minute rule: Wipe condensation off walls/ceiling with mop after shower
- Window crack: Leave open 10 mins after shower, even in winter
- Monthly zap: Spend 5 mins doing this method once a month in winter. Prevention > cure.
** FAQs UK Mums Ask Me**
Is it safe with kids in the house?
Yes. Use HG or Astonish, open window, close door 10 mins. No bleach fumes. I do it when kids are at school.
What if I have Artex/ textured ceiling?
This method is perfect for it. No scrubbing = no damage to texture. Dab only.
What if it’s really bad/black thick mould?
Do 2 rounds: Spray, wait 5, wipe, repeat. If it’s still there after round 2, you may have a leak. Call plumber.
** The 5 Minute Verdict**
Time saved: 25 mins vs scrubbing
Arm ache: 0/10
Likelihood of doing it again: 10/10 because it’s 5 mins
This isn’t a deep clean. It’s a mum hack for real life. If you’ve got 5 mins while pasta boils, you can have a ceiling that doesn’t make you cringe.
